What is API Testing with Postman
The Test Automation pyramid consists of 3 layers: GUI, API, and Unit tests. Most test automation specialists focus primarily on the GUI, while developers usually focus on Unit tests. But who is doing API testing? To develop a thorough test approach, it is important that the API tests are well set up. In this API Testing with Postman training, we will provide you with the how and why of API testing. The basic concepts of APIs and API testing are explained, and you will also set up some API tests yourself. The training focuses primarily on RESTful APIs and Postman as the tool to test those.
Our trainers’ expertise bridges the gap between theory and practice, offering real-world insights and best practices. This training emphasizes the critical role of API testing within the Test Automation pyramid, ensuring a more robust and reliable software development process. With their extensive experience and practical knowledge, our trainers make the learning journey both engaging and effective.
Who should attend API Testing with Postman
For every professional who wants to get the best out of themselves and others every day, such as:
- Software Testers: Expand your testing capabilities beyond GUI testing.
- Developers: Learn how to integrate API testing into your development workflow.
- DevOps Engineers: Integrate API testing into your CI/CD pipelines.
But really anyone that wants to learn how to test RESTful API’s using Postman is more than welcome. Postman is a very user-friendly tool.
For this training you do need a notebook/laptop on which you have administrator-credentials, as in: you can install software on it yourself. This device needs unrestricted internet access as wel (so not through a VPN or proxy). You will need to bring your own device.

Please note During this training you will need a notebook/laptop on which you can install software yourself. Software used in training: IntelliJ IDEA, Java Development Kit 11 or higher, Git and Mave
Objectives
At the end of the training you will be able to:
- Understand what an API is and what types of APIs there are
- Understand and apply exactly what you should test when you test an API
- Understand and apply how you can test a RESTful API with Postman
Alternative Option: REST-Assured This training can also be given using REST-Assured, a Java-based library. This version focuses on coding the API tests with Java instead of using Postman. If you are interested in this version, feel free to contact us about the possibilities.
Alternative Option: Dutch This training is also provided in Dutch. If you are interested in this version, feel free to contact us about the possibilities.
